This news is directly from Bishop Stephen.  I received a very short response to my e-mail and then this came around 8:30pm on Sunday.

New Year Greetings to you from Lui.
I am not sure whether you have read the news about Lui from Lui network
pasted by my wife Lillian.

We have a very good Christmas celebration and new year but things changed
quickly to bad last Saturday there was fighting in Lui village between the solders at the school opposite the Compound where you stayed when you were in Lui.

This fighting also not only in Lui but also in some parts of the diocese for example Lanyi village, Buagyi village, Mideh village respectively.

The shops at Lui market and the above mentioned villages were all looted by the solders, it is very sad.
In Lui three people died all of them are solders and we do not have reports from other villages yet.

Today Lui village is calm but we are not sure yet.

We hope for best.

Thanks for this.  Here also is what Bishop Stephen posted on the Diocese of Salisbury web site, similar but with a couple of other details.

"Please continue to pray for us as our country is going through difficult times at the moment we are seriously facing the challenge of war.  Last Friday and Saturday has been a very challenging situation for us in the Diocese of Lui when the fighting broke among the solders at the village of Lanyi in Lui Archdeaconry and Mideh village in Mideh Archdeaconry and Lui village where the See of the Diocese of Lui is sited.  People from all this villages had to run for their live into the forest and the shops at the local markets are all looted, so far we have no idea about how many people whom have died or injured.

"Today in Lui life is moving slowly back to normal but it is not ease. Please join us in prayers for the permanent peace in South Sudan.

"God Bless You. Bishop Stephen Dokolo"

Thank you Annette for posting. Hopefully the soldiers have left Lui. My heart breaks when I read about the looting in the village and the the fighting in other parts of the diocese.
