Litany for South Sudan

On Friday 9 May 2014, our presiding bishop, Katharine Jefferts-Schori, has called for prayer for South Sudan.  On February 16, the Companion Diocese Committee held a service of prayer for peace in South Sudan.  We used a Litany for Peace in South Sudan, developed in this Diocese.  This Litany is available for any who would like to use it in Church as we pray for stability…

An agreement

According to BBC Salva Kiir and Riek Machar signed an agreement in Addis Ababa on Friday: a ceasefire, a new constitution to be drafted and fresh elections.  They are expected to allow humanitarian aid into affected areas.  Let's all pray that this ceasefire will last, unlike the last one.  Thanks USA: the pressure from your government on this has been a very  important factor in getting any kind of agreement.

Signs of Hope and Peace

It is almost impossible to follow the conflict raging in South Sudan when one reads that there is a cease fire signed in January although fighting continues.  The town of Bentiu, capital of Unity State has changed hands from the South Sudanese military to rebels groups several times and now is being held by the government.
