New Hope

Follow up to my last entry --

The wire went through, and our friends should have the money for getting their documents this week. And I looked at the US Embassy-Juba page and found that South Sudanese are to go to Nairobi for visa interviews. Then I looked at the wait time for an appointment in Nairobi and found that it's only two or three days, with up to a week before picking up the visa. The April-May Moru Missioners to Missouri

Somehow these visits always seem to be touch and go. The April-May trip of Gordon, Margaret, Veronica, and Noel has encountered several obstacles and is still up in the air. First we were on hold because Archbishop Daniel's letter to the Presiding Bishop called our whole Lui relationship into question. Thursday at the CSW

Today I didn't even see Lillian. I went to a session called "Promoting Islamic Models That Help Women Fight Poverty and Hunger," which was pretty much about the battle between what we might want to call conservative and liberal schools of Islamic jurisprudence. The presenting organization was called Karama, and all the presenters were Muslim American lawyers. I was hoping they'd have insights into poverty and hunger that nobody else had, but the session was really about providing empowerment…
