The team that went with us to Tanzania in May 2011 learned to built these stoves there. The traditional way is to have a open fire and three stones where you put your pan and then long poles that you gradually put into the fire. With this stove you save firewood - it takes less and since the holes are made after your pans and you have a chimney pipe that take the smoke out on the back it is much more healthy. Finally it is much safer than the open fire where children easily can harm temselves especially if you have long burning poles pointing out in all different directions from the fire
Thanks. I had wondered what this is. What is a woodsaving stove? How does it differ from their typical mode of cooking? (I never got into the "kitchen" in Lui.)
Three woodsaving stoves has been built in Lui until now. One in Margrets house, one for Ismaels family and one at Ismaels neigbours house
